This page contains an administrative checklist to help you cover the steps you need to take for every WebVista course site you want to use at the beginning of every semester.
Confirm PeopleSoft Information
Please make sure that the information about the class(es) for which you are requesting a site or sites is correctly entered into the PeopleSoft Class Schedule and that the instructor information also is correct. Please check with your department administrative staff if you have any questions about this process.
Consider FERPA and Accessibility Issues
To help you ensure Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) compliance while using WebVista, please review our recommendations on the Student Privacy page. FERPA issues can affect how we create your site.
Consider accessibility. It may be difficult or impossible for individuals with disabilities who use certain kinds of adaptive technology to create or access WebVista course sites or certain WebVista components. See the Accessibility Support page for instructors for details and help.
Request a Site
Whether you want to set up a new WebVista course site or reset and reuse an existing site, fill out the Site Request Form, and we will take care of it for you. For details, see the Site Request Instructions.
Choose Student Access Settings
As the instructor/owner of a WebVista course site, you determine when students will be able to access your site when you select the *Student access option on the Site Request Form. If you choose "Yes," students should have access to your site immediately, you will have to perform fewer maintenance tasks later. See the Granting Student Access to a Site page for details.
Build and Teach with Your Site
Get information about how to develop your site with WebVista and other tools in the Build Your Site, Get Advanced Tips, and Use Other Tools with WebVista sections. Get information about how to teach with it in the Grant/Deny Access, Prepare for Student Use, and Teach with WebVista sections.
Inform Students About Your Site
E-mail your students to let them know you have a WebVista site for your course and that it is ready for them to access. E-mail addresses of registered students can be obtained from UM Reports. Guide your students to the help resources for Site Log In and Browser Set Up. We recommend that you demonstrate how to use the site in class at the beginning of the term, and direct students to the Student Support section of this Web site for more information. You also may want to recommend that students access the WebVista Student Orientation online tutorial.
