The University’s myU portal provides a central, customizable space where all students and staff and faculty members have single sign-on access to commonly-used University tools such as e-mail, Web course sites, UMCal, UMChat, the Bookstores online ordering system, One Stop, and FormsNirvana.
Why Use myU for WebVista Access?
WebVista is the current centrally-supported course management system (CMS) used at the University. In the future multiple versions of WebVista or other CMS(s) also may be supported. Using myU gives students and staff an easy and transparent way to access all their current course Web sites without having to be aware of which CMS is being used.
Further, WebVista is currently spread across two “clusters,” or environments, and exists at more than one Web address or URL. Students and staff and faculty members may have course Web sites on more than one “cluster,” so the myU portal provides a common access point for all course Web sites, no matter where those sites exist.
Other advantages of using the myU portal include the following:
- Students and faculty and staff members may access in the my Toolkit section the University’s WebMail, UMCal, and UMChat programs.
- Students and faculty and staff members may opt in the my News section to receive recent news, weather, or departmental updates by e-mail.
- Non-University users may create guest IDs for access to myU pages.
- Students and faculty and staff members may use myU to conduct online discussions and polls and to share files outside of WebVista.
For more information about the myU portal and how it works, see myU Help.
How Often Is myU Updated?
At the beginning of each semester, a common question from students and faculty and staff members is, “When will I see my new course Web sites listed at myu.umn.edu?”
